FAQ

Is the Gladiator a tank or a DPS in PvE?
Both. The game treats Gladiator as a tank, but it has no taunt: Keen Strike, Rending Blow and Overhead Slam all increase Enmity, so you hold aggro simply by dealing damage. Experienced players note that pure DPS classes still out-damage a Gladiator at equal gear, so expect to play an off-tank who hits hard.
Should I take Rage Burst or Zikel’s Blessing?
Take both. Rage Burst opens a 10-second Overhead Slam window and raises your PvE Damage Boost, while Zikel’s Blessing raises your Attack by 20% and, from stigma level 5, your Stagger Gauge Damage by 50%. Experienced players run them together rather than choosing one.
Why can I only use Overhead Slam some of the time?
Overhead Slam needs a trigger. It becomes usable on a knocked-down target, has a 7% chance to trigger when you hit a target that is immune to crowd control (most bosses), and is enabled for 10 seconds after Rage Burst hits. Rage Burst is the reliable way to use it against bosses.
How do I stop running out of mana?
Keen Strike restores 100 MP per use (120 with its MP specialization), Sword Aura Rampage’s MP specialization restores 120 MP per hit on a staggered boss, and Focused Block restores 110 MP on a parry. At skill level 16, Rending Blow’s last specialization restores 50 MP on every critical hit, which lets you drop Keen Strike from the rotation.
How many specializations can one skill have?
In the skill builder data, an active skill takes one specialization at skill level 8 and two from level 12 onward. Stigmas unlock a new specialization every five levels (5, 10, 15 and 20) and keep all of them, so a level 20 stigma has four.
Should a Gladiator group with a Templar?
Usually not. The party damage buff from the Gladiator passive Experienced Counterstrike does not stack with the Templar’s Fury effect, and Rage Burst’s Wounded debuff does not stack with the Templar’s Taunt. Without a Templar in the group, the Gladiator also becomes the main tank.

What is the best Gladiator PvE build right now?

The strongest PvE Gladiator on Global builds its damage around three skills: Rending Blow, Overhead Slam and Ruinous Blow. Four self-buff stigmas keep those skills hitting harder and more often, and a single macro handles most of the rotation. The table below is the whole build at a glance; each section after it explains one part.

Part Leveling (to 45) Level 45 goal
Core damage Rending Blow, Keen Strike, Overhead Slam Overhead Slam, Rending Blow
Big hit + buff Ruinous Blow Ruinous Blow
Stigmas Lunge Stance, Zikel’s Blessing, Rage Burst, Focused Block Same four, levelled
Macro Rage Burst → Overhead Slam → Rending Blow, plus Keen Strike on left click Same macro, Keen Strike dropped
Passives Experienced Counterstrike, Attack Preparation + Impact Hit, Murderous Burst

Which skills should a PvE Gladiator level first?

Level Rending Blow, Overhead Slam and Ruinous Blow first; they carry almost all of your damage. While leveling, keep Keen Strike close behind as your mana engine. Mobility (Leaping Slam, Rush Strike) and Defiance only need level 8 for their key specialization. Sword Aura Rampage is a stagger-window tool.

Skill points only take skills to level 10. According to Grobs, every level after that comes from skill-level nodes on the Daevanion boards, which is why the board plan in a later section matters so much.

Skill Job in the build Leveling target Level 45 target
Rending Blow Main filler (hits up to 4 enemies within 4m) 12 16
Overhead Slam Biggest single-target damage 12 16
Ruinous Blow Big hit + Prepare for Battle buff 12 16 (lower priority)
Keen Strike Mana generator (restores 100 MP per hit) 12 12
Sword Aura Rampage Spam while a boss is staggered 8 16 (situational)
Leaping Slam 20m gap closer 8 8
Rush Strike Gap closer after a dodge 8 8
Defiance Breaks Stun, Knockdown, Airborne, Grab, Frost and Fear 8 12

Which specializations should you pick?

Active skills unlock specialization options at skill levels 8, 12 and 16. You can equip one at level 8 and two from level 12. These are the picks both creators agree on:

  • Rending Blow: take the level 8 option that makes it a Mobile skill. Without it, you are rooted every time you use your most-spammed attack. At level 16, switch the second slot to Restores 50 MP on landing a Critical Hit.
  • Overhead Slam: take Lands as a Critical Hit at level 12. Grobs pairs it with the level 8 chain option early (it adds an Upward Strike follow-up). He then swaps that chain option for the level 16 option, which both creators say removes Overhead Slam’s 5-second cooldown.
  • Ruinous Blow: take the level 12 bonus damage on hit. For the second slot, Grobs took +20% Skill Speed while leveling and +30% skill Critical Hit in his level 45 plan.
  • Keen Strike: take Restores 120 MP or +50% Multi-Hit chance. Ulfhednar also likes the level 12 option, which cuts Ruinous Blow’s cooldown by 1s on every hit.
  • Leaping Slam: Resets cooldown on defeating an enemy at level 8. This is what makes the Gladiator a fast farmer.
  • Defiance: Restores 20% HP on use at level 8.

Which stigmas should a Gladiator use in PvE?

Use Lunge Stance, Zikel’s Blessing, Rage Burst and Focused Block. Three of them are damage buffs, and Focused Block is a guaranteed parry that also powers the party buff from your passives. These are also the four stigmas most often on the skill bar in the 462 public Gladiator skill builds on questlog.gg that slot stigmas: Lunge Stance 93%, Rage Burst 93%, Zikel’s Blessing 92% and Focused Block 55%. aLuckyRO lists the Global stigma slot unlocks as character levels 22, 27, 32 and 37, so you get four in total. Check this in your own client.

Stigma What it does (client data) Level target
Lunge Stance +20% Combat Speed for 10s; +5% Double Chance from level 5; at level 20, a 50% chance to cut all skill cooldowns by 1s on each critical hit 20
Zikel’s Blessing +20% Attack and +100 Accuracy for 10s; +50% Stagger Gauge Damage from level 5; +10% PvE Damage Boost from level 10 10+
Rage Burst Damage, reduces enemy Attack by 10%, +10% PvE Damage Boost for 10s, and enables Overhead Slam on the target for 10s 5 first
Focused Block +100% Block Damage Reduction and a guaranteed parry; restores 110 MP and Stamina on parry; two uses from level 5 5

Upgrade order at level 45 (Grobs): Rage Burst to 5 first; he says this cuts its cooldown from 45 to 30 seconds. Then Focused Block to 5 for a second charge, then everything into Lunge Stance until level 20. Once Lunge Stance’s cooldown-reduction chance is active, Grobs reports near-permanent uptime on Rage Burst, and that means Overhead Slam is almost always available.

How do you set up the Gladiator macro and rotation?

Put Rage Burst → Overhead Slam → Rending Blow in a single macro line, in that order. The macro fires Rage Burst whenever it is ready, uses Overhead Slam while it is enabled, and otherwise falls back to Rending Blow. While leveling, hold left click (Keen Strike) together with the macro key to keep your mana up.

At level 45 the rotation changes. Once Overhead Slam and Rending Blow both reach 16, Grobs stops using Keen Strike and holds only the macro key, because Rending Blow now refunds mana on crits. Ulfhednar keeps Keen Strike on left click and adds Zikel’s Blessing and Sword Aura Rampage to his macro instead. Both approaches work; choose based on how often you run dry.

Boss opener (Grobs):

  1. Cast Lunge Stance and Zikel’s Blessing.
  2. Leap in with Leaping Slam and use Ruinous Blow for Prepare for Battle (+20% PvE Damage Boost, +100 Critical Hit for 20s).
  3. Parry the boss’s first attack with Focused Block to trigger Experienced Counterstrike’s party buff.
  4. Hold the macro. When the boss is staggered, spam Sword Aura Rampage.

Stay in front of the boss. Experienced Counterstrike boosts front-attack damage, and Grobs recommends turning on Settings → Info Display → Combat → Display boss orientation indicator so you can always see where the front is.

Which passives should you prioritize?

While leveling, put points into Experienced Counterstrike and Attack Preparation. At level 45, add Impact Hit and Murderous Burst. Both creators name the same four.

  • Experienced Counterstrike: front-attack damage boost, plus a 20-second PvE Damage Boost for you and your party every time you block or parry. It does not stack with the Templar’s Fury.
  • Attack Preparation: flat PvE Damage Boost, Defense and Accuracy.
  • Impact Hit: its crowd-control chance barely matters in PvE, but it also adds Double Chance, the stat that makes a hit deal double damage. Ulfhednar calls Double Chance the Gladiator’s most important stat.
  • Murderous Burst: every hit adds a Menace stack. At five stacks it deals area damage and raises your Critical Damage Boost for 3s. A Gladiator attacks fast enough to keep this up almost all the time.
  • Blood Absorption (optional): chance-based healing on hit, plus a large heal when you drop to 50% HP or lower (60s cooldown). Nice to have, but not a priority.

How should you spend Daevanion points for PvE?

Spend points first on nodes that raise the levels of your core active skills, then on high-grade damage nodes, then on passive skill-level nodes. The five Gladiator boards unlock at character levels 12 (Nezekan), 20 (Zikel), 30 (Vaizel), 40 (Triniel) and 45 (Azphel).

Ulfhednar’s order:

  1. Skill-level nodes for Overhead Slam, Ruinous Blow and Rending Blow.
  2. High-grade (legendary) nodes such as Damage Boost and Critical Damage Boost.
  3. Skill-level nodes for Impact Hit, Attack Preparation and Experienced Counterstrike.
  4. Filler: attack nodes first, then critical hit nodes, and +50 MP nodes only if you struggle with mana.

Grobs’ leveling template uses just 65 points to give every important skill two extra levels. His level 45 plan spends 227 points across Nezekan, Zikel, Vaizel and Triniel. Node-by-node layouts are in our Gladiator Daevanion guide.

What stats and gear should a PvE Gladiator chase?

Chase anything that adds damage. Double Chance comes first, then Combat Speed, Critical Hit and Damage Boost, plus enough Accuracy to stop missing bosses. Ulfhednar adds a few specific tips:

  • Look for Weapon Damage Boost and Combat Speed on weapon affixes.
  • Pick Arcana cards that boost your three main skills.
  • Get the title that grants Combat Speed.

Where does this build come from?

We have not tested this build in-game ourselves. It is compiled from these sources and cross-checked against the skill data:

Cooldown figures (Overhead Slam’s 5 seconds, Rage Burst’s 45 seconds) come from the creators, not the client data. Treat them as approximate until a patch confirms them.
