What is the best Templar build in AION 2?
The best Templar build rests on three stigmas: Doom Shield, Battlefield Banner and Noble Armor. Its damage comes from Judgment at skill level 16, where Judgment loses its cooldown and can be cast every time Doom Shield, Shield Smite or Warding Strike opens a window. What players still disagree on is the fourth stigma, and how much damage to give up for safety:
| Part | Best pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Stigmas 1–3 | Doom Shield, Battlefield Banner, Noble Armor | 83%, 78% and 71% of 407 public builds |
| Stigma 4 (damage) | Empyrean Lord’s Punishment | 65% of the builds that run the three core stigmas; 100 Stagger damage from level 10 |
| Stigma 4 (safety) | Shield of Protection | Leonis’ swap for a fight you are not sure of, or a weak healer |
| Main damage | Judgment at 16 | No cooldown at 16; Xia puts it at about 60% of a Templar’s damage |
| Stigma levels | Battlefield Banner 10, Noble Armor 15, Doom Shield 5 | Leonis’ order; Noble Armor 15 multiplies Fury by 1.5 |
| Leveling | Leonis’ “Levelling” build | The most-liked Templar skill build on questlog.gg (18 likes) |

How do the top-rated Templar builds compare?
The most-liked public Templar builds on questlog.gg (Global) come from three players: Leonis, Xia and NoBS Game Guides. Likes were checked on 2026-10-11. Leonis made the four most-liked builds, so his setup is effectively the community default.
| Build (author) | Likes | Stigmas on the bar | Skills above 12 | Built for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| “Levelling” (Leonis) | 18 | Noble Armor 15, Empyrean Lord’s Punishment 10, Battlefield Banner 10, Doom Shield 5 | None; every active at 12 | Main story quests |
| “Offensive Setup - Midgame” (Leonis) | 15 | Battlefield Banner 20, Noble Armor 15, Doom Shield 5, Executing Blade 5 | Judgment and Pummel 16; Punishment and Annihilate 15 | About 2,300 gear score |
| “Offensive Setup - Early” (Leonis) | 13 | Noble Armor 10, Empyrean Lord’s Punishment 10, Battlefield Banner 10, Doom Shield 5 | None; Poach at 8, the rest at 12 | A fresh level 45 character |
| “GIGATANKY (Midgame)” (Leonis) | 5 | Taunt 15, Nezekan’s Shield 15, Shield of Protection 10, Executing Blade 5 | Pummel 20 | Tougher fights |
| “BOSS_DPS” (Xia) | 2 | Noble Armor 15, Shield of Protection 15, Taunt 12, Doom Shield 5 | Judgment, Punishment, Vicious Strike, Poach and Shield Rush 20; Warding Strike 16 | Boss fights |
| “Templar - Nobs Game Guides” (NoBS Game Guides) | 1 | Battlefield Banner 15, Noble Armor 15, Doom Shield 5, Shield of Protection 5 | Judgment, Pummel, Punishment and Vicious Strike 16 | Endgame PvE |
Most players copy Leonis’ early bar exactly. Of the 350 public Templar skill builds with exactly four stigmas on the bar, 123 (35%) run Doom Shield, Battlefield Banner, Noble Armor and Empyrean Lord’s Punishment, more than four times as many as the next most common set. Xia’s boss build is the clearest alternative. It keeps Noble Armor and Doom Shield but replaces Battlefield Banner with Taunt and Shield of Protection, which is the “safe tanking” setup from her guide.
What is the best Templar build for leveling?
Leonis’ “Levelling” build. It is the most-liked Templar skill build on questlog.gg, and nearly every leveling build uses the same stigma bar. Of the 67 public Templar builds named for leveling or the main story quests that slot stigmas, 66 slot Doom Shield and Battlefield Banner, 62 Empyrean Lord’s Punishment and 60 Noble Armor.
What the build does:
- Every active skill at 12, except Defiance, which stays at 1.
- Stigmas: Noble Armor 15, Empyrean Lord’s Punishment 10, Battlefield Banner 10 and Doom Shield 5. Shield of Protection is levelled to 10 but left off the bar, ready for harder fights.
- Upgrade order: Pummel, Judgment, Punishment, Annihilate and Shield Smite first, then the stigmas.
- How to play it: Leonis’ note says to spam Pummel and the macro while questing. Once you can get both Vicious Strike and Judgment to 12, switch to Vicious Strike and Warding Strike.
Empyrean Lord’s Punishment earns its slot while leveling. From level 10 it deals 100 Stagger damage, so Leonis raises it early to stagger bosses almost instantly.
Two more leveling tips come from the other creators:
- Poach at level 8. NoBS Game Guides takes the specialization that resets Poach’s cooldown when you defeat an enemy, which he says helps a lot while questing. The client data lists it as one of Poach’s level 8 options.
- Doom Shield at 15 for farming. Level 15 also resets Doom Shield’s cooldown on a kill. Xia’s “PVE_FARM” build is built around it, and she says it lets her zoom around the map while farming or doing quests.
Grobs’ “Templar - Leveling” build (2 likes) is a lighter version for the first levels: Vicious Strike, Pummel, Punishment and Judgment at 12, most other skills at 8, and Doom Shield, Shield of Protection, Taunt and Battlefield Banner just unlocked.
Which stigma should a Templar take in the fourth slot?
Empyrean Lord’s Punishment for damage, Shield of Protection or Taunt for safety. Of the 350 builds with four stigmas on the bar, 189 (54%) run all three core stigmas, and their fourth pick splits like this:
| Fourth stigma | Share of 189 builds | What it does (client data) | Who takes it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Empyrean Lord’s Punishment | 65% | Area hit with a Stun and 50 Stagger damage; +50 Stagger at level 10; +10% PvE Damage Boost for 10s on hit at 15 | Leonis’ leveling and early builds |
| Shield of Protection | 14% | Guaranteed Block with 100% more Block Damage Reduction; a second use in a row at level 5; usable while moving at 10 | Leonis for hard fights; NoBS Game Guides |
| Taunt | 14% | Enmity pull and Shrink (−200 Accuracy, −10% Attack); Shrink also cuts PvE Damage Tolerance by 10% from level 5 | Xia’s damage setup |
| Executing Blade | 6% | Hits up to 4 enemies and lowers Defense by 30% for 5s; −15s cooldown at level 5 | Leonis’ midgame build |
Empyrean Lord’s Punishment is the default damage pick: an area hit that stuns, 100 Stagger damage from level 10, and from level 15 a 10% PvE Damage Boost for 10 seconds on every hit.
Shield of Protection is what Leonis swaps in when you are not confident in a fight, have a bad healer or just want to play safe. In his update video he lists what it brings: a full block that negates damage, a little healing, Fury through your passive, and from level 10 the freedom to move while blocking so you can reposition. Xia adds that blocking saves Stamina for other mechanics.
Taunt keeps the boss on you. Xia runs it in both her safe and her damage setups, and from level 5 its Shrink lowers the boss’s PvE Damage Tolerance, so the whole party deals more damage. felixaqsw’s build notes give a second reason: aggro resets when you die and get revived, and Taunt wins it back quickly.
Executing Blade is the newest pick. Leonis moved to it in his midgame build, with Battlefield Banner pushed to 20. Its Defense cut raises the same question as Debilitating Smash. A tank Xia trusts told her bosses have no Defense, and her own tests showed no difference from Defense debuffs. If that holds, the −30% does nothing on bosses either. The PvE page covers that debate under Is Debilitating Smash worth using?

What about builds without all three core stigmas?
106 of the 350 builds keep only two of the three. The most common gap is Noble Armor: 53 builds run Doom Shield and Battlefield Banner without it. aLuckyRO is one creator who skips Noble Armor early, because the first Season 1 dungeons are easy.
Leonis’ “GIGATANKY” build goes further and drops all three. Its bar is Taunt 15, Nezekan’s Shield 15, Shield of Protection 10 and Executing Blade 5, with Pummel at 20. Nezekan’s Shield covers you and the party with a shield worth 41% of Max HP for 3 seconds, and from level 15 adds 20% PvE Damage Tolerance while it lasts. Leonis describes the build as a more defensive setup for tougher fights. felixaqsw’s view is the counterweight: with a good healer and solid knowledge of the fight, Nezekan’s Shield and Shield of Protection are unnecessary unless the boss has a mechanic that needs a shield.
Which Templar build fits your situation?
Pick the build that matches where you are:
- Leveling to 45: Leonis’ “Levelling” build. Spam Pummel and the macro until Vicious Strike and Judgment reach 12.
- Just reached 45: Leonis’ “Offensive Setup - Early”, the same stigma bar with Noble Armor at 10.
- Around 2,300 gear score: Leonis’ “Offensive Setup - Midgame”. His stigma order is Battlefield Banner 10, Noble Armor 15, Executing Blade 5, Doom Shield 5, then Battlefield Banner 15.
- Endgame PvE damage: NoBS Game Guides’ build, with Judgment, Pummel, Punishment and Vicious Strike at 16. His figure for that setup is about 45k damage per second at 2,100 item level.
- A fight you keep failing, or a weak healer: swap Empyrean Lord’s Punishment for Shield of Protection, as Leonis suggests. His GIGATANKY build is the fully defensive version.
- Boss fights where you must hold aggro: Xia’s “BOSS_DPS”: Noble Armor, Doom Shield, Taunt and Shield of Protection, with the main skills at 20 as a long-term target.
- Farming: Xia’s “PVE_FARM”, with Doom Shield at 15 for its cooldown reset on a kill. She calls it her favorite setup and says it lets her nearly max out the daily dungeon.
- PvP: Xia’s “5v5” build runs Doom Shield, Grapple, Comrade in Arms and Empyrean Lord’s Punishment. Across the 30 builds named for PvP, Doom Shield (26), Empyrean Lord’s Punishment (18) and Executing Blade (16) are the most common stigmas.
What gear and Daevanion go with the best build?
The build needs Judgment at 16, so gear matters as much as skill points. Skill points stop at 10, and four more levels come from the Templar Daevanion boards. The last two come from skill lines on rings and Arcana. Xia notes that only the Chalice and Parchment Arcana can roll Judgment, so those are the cards to upgrade first. The Templar gear guide covers the rest. Every Templar page is linked from the Templar builds hub, and the AION 2 classes overview compares the Templar with the other classes.
Where does this build comparison come from?
- Builds and like counts: public Global Templar skill builds on questlog.gg (checked 2026-10-11), including Leonis’ Levelling, Offensive Setup - Early, Offensive Setup - Midgame and GIGATANKY builds, Xia’s BOSS_DPS, PVE_FARM and 5v5 builds, NoBS Game Guides’ build, Grobs’ leveling build and felixaqsw’s midgame boss build.
- Stigma shares: the stigmas on the skill bar in 407 of the 712 public Global Templar skill builds on questlog.gg, counted on 2026-10-11. 350 of them have exactly four. Leveling and PvP builds were picked out by their names.
- Stigma effects: the Global client data in questlog.gg’s skill builder.
