FAQ

What is the best Assassin macro in AION 2?
Grobs’ chain: Insignia Explosion → Heart Gore → Savage Roar while leveling, the most-liked Assassin macro on questlog.gg (62 likes), and Savage Fang → Insignia Explosion → Heart Gore → Savage Roar at level 45 (41 likes). Together with s0nderr_’s Insignia Explosion → Ambush → Storm Rampage → Savage Roar, 53% of the 536 public Global Assassin builds with a macro use one of these three chains.
Why does Insignia Explosion go first in the Assassin macro?
Because it spends the Insignias the rest of the chain builds. In the client data, Insignia Explosion’s damage and Stun chance grow with each Insignia on the target, up to five, and Savage Roar at the end of the chain engraves one per cast. With Insignia Explosion first, the macro detonates whenever it is ready. 451 of the 465 Assassin macros with it put it first, or right after Savage Fang.
Should Savage Fang be in the Assassin macro?
Grobs puts it at the front of the level 45 chain, so the macro opens with five Insignias and the first Insignia Explosion hits a full stack. Most players keep it out: only 95 of the 325 builds with Savage Fang on the skill bar put it in the macro. kozu0 explains why: the macro fires it on whatever you target, and theswamplord saves it for the start of a fight or a target switch.
Should Storm Rampage be in the Assassin macro?
Not before its level 16 option. Storm Rampage only hits a staggered target, and at level 16 each hit cuts all your cooldowns by 1 second. theswamplord and congobean both call it a damage loss without that option. Yet 244 public Assassin macros include it, mostly copies of s0nderr_’s chain, and only 59 of them have the level 16 option.
Do Assassins use a macro in PvP?
Many do not. Only 35 of the 49 public Assassin builds named for PvP have a macro, and j0ei’s PvP build plays fully by hand: Illusive Clone, Shadowstrike and Triniel’s Dagger, then Insignia Explosion and Quick Slice, then Heart Gore spam. All 35 PvP macros include Heart Gore, and 17 add Quick Slice.

What is the best Assassin macro in AION 2?

One chain that starts with Insignia Explosion and ends with Savage Roar. Assassin macros are short: 330 of the 536 public Global Assassin builds with a macro (62%) have a single step. Three versions of that step cover 53% of all Assassin macros:

Chain Share of Assassin macros Best-known build
Insignia Explosion → Ambush → Storm Rampage → Savage Roar 25% s0nderr_, “1400+” (10 likes)
Insignia Explosion → Heart Gore → Savage Roar 16% Grobs, “Assassin - Leveling” (62 likes, the most-liked Assassin macro)
Savage Fang → Insignia Explosion → Heart Gore → Savage Roar 12% Grobs, “Assassin - Goal Early 45” (41 likes)

Grobs’ chain is the one the creators recommend: Insignia Explosion → Heart Gore → Savage Roar while leveling, with Savage Fang added at the front once you have it. You hold the macro together with Quick Slice on left click, so each cancels the other’s animation, as congobean’s note explains. How chains and the macro key work for every class is in our AION 2 macro guide.

How do Insignias drive the chain?

Savage Roar builds them, Insignia Explosion spends them. In the client data:

Skill Role in the chain
Insignia Explosion Hits up to 4 enemies and Stuns. Its damage and Stun chance grow with each Insignia on the target, from 10% Stun at one Insignia to 50% at five (doubled on monsters)
Heart Gore Can only be cast after you land a Critical Hit; hits up to 4 enemies and restores 100 MP
Savage Roar Hits up to 4 enemies and engraves 1 Insignia for 10 seconds
Savage Fang Stigma: engraves 5 Insignias at once and deals 50 Stagger damage

A chain casts the first skill in it that is ready, so the order is a priority list: detonate whenever Insignia Explosion is up, take Heart Gore whenever a crit unlocks it, and otherwise build with Savage Roar. The public builds follow that logic almost without exception. 451 of the 465 Assassin macros with Insignia Explosion put it first in its chain, or right after Savage Fang, and 490 of the 506 with Savage Roar put it last.

The common specializations push the same way. 86% of builds take Savage Roar’s +20% Skill Speed, 59% take Insignia Explosion’s option that keeps 2 Insignias after it detonates, and 58% take Quick Slice’s level 12 option that cuts 1 second off Insignia Explosion per hit. Heart Gore’s level 16 option, which resets its cooldown on a Critical Hit, is in 39% of builds, and Illusive Clone removes its cooldown for 10 seconds. schayan98’s note describes the result: once Heart Gore is at 16, you cast it almost every second.

Should Savage Fang go in the macro?

Grobs puts it first; most players do not. Savage Fang at the front of the chain means the macro opens every fight with five Insignias, so the first Insignia Explosion hits a full stack. That is Grobs’ level 45 macro, and 12% of Assassin macros copy it.

The rest keep it on a key of their own: only 95 of the 325 builds with Savage Fang on the skill bar (29%) put it in the macro. kozu0’s note gives the reason: the macro fires it on whatever you are targeting, including the wrong target. theswamplord uses it only at the start of a fight or when switching targets. Savage Fang is also one of your largest Stagger hits, so saving it for the boss pays off twice.

Should Storm Rampage go in the macro?

Not until its level 16 option. Storm Rampage only hits a staggered target, and at skill level 16 each hit cuts all your cooldowns by 1 second. Without that option, theswamplord calls it always a damage loss and congobean calls it useless. The Assassin PvE build covers how Grobs and Nellan97 use it during stagger windows to bring Illusive Clone back sooner.

The public builds have not caught up. s0nderr_’s Insignia Explosion → Ambush → Storm Rampage → Savage Roar is the single most common Assassin chain (25%), but of the 244 Assassin macros with Storm Rampage, only 59 have its level 16 option; most run it at 8 or 12. Nellan97 also found a trap: during a stagger, Storm Rampage is always ready, and the macro kept firing it even when Insignia Explosion was up. The fix was to bind Insignia Explosion to a separate key as well.

How do the top Assassin macros compare?

The most-liked Assassin macros on questlog.gg, with likes checked on 2026-10-26:

Build (author) Likes Macro What sets it apart
“Assassin - Leveling” (Grobs) 62 Insignia Explosion → Heart Gore → Savage Roar The base chain
“Assassin - Goal Early 45” (Grobs) 41 Savage Fang → Insignia Explosion → Heart Gore → Savage Roar Savage Fang opens with five Insignias
“Assassin PvE Boss” (alan218) 18 Heart Gore → Ambush → Savage Roar; Insignia Explosion Insignia Explosion as a step of its own; main skills at 20
“1400+” (s0nderr_) 10 Insignia Explosion → Ambush → Storm Rampage → Savage Roar Ambush in place of Heart Gore; Storm Rampage at 12
“Assassin PvE Farming” (alan218) 7 Insignia Explosion → Throw Shadowblade → Heart Gore → Ambush Throw Shadowblade in the chain, for farming
“Yuriko the Tiger’s Shadow (Campaign)” (l4z4i) 7 Storm Rampage → Heart Gore → Savage Roar Insignia Explosion left out of the macro
“Yuriko the Tiger’s Shadow (Endgame)” (l4z4i) 6 Throw Shadowblade → Storm Rampage → Heart Gore → Savage Roar; Infiltrate → Shadow Fall; Ambush; Whirlwind Slice Throw Shadowblade at 10 jumps from enemy to enemy for farming; republished on 23 October with three more steps
“j0eitv Assassin Global” (j0ei) 6 Insignia Explosion → Ambush → Heart Gore → Savage Roar; Swift Contract → Illusive Clone Buffs in a second step
“Preset 1 Boss” (delcatta) 3 Insignia Explosion → Heart Gore → Savage Roar; Quick Slice Quick Slice as a second step, so one key does both

delcatta also puts the three buffs in a chain of their own on key 1, Swift Contract → Illusive Clone → Triniel’s Dagger, and taps it three times before the opener.

What should you keep out of the Assassin macro?

Every skill that moves you, and your buffs. Among Assassin builds with a macro that have each skill on their skill bar, these are the shares that leave it out:

Skill Kept out of the macro Why
Shadowstrike 98% Teleports behind the target; your opener
Flash Slice 98% Moves you to the target’s other side
Infiltrate 94% Moves you behind the target; only after a Dodge or while flying
Triniel’s Dagger 93% Stigma; part of the opener
Quick Slice 90% Your basic attack, held on left click
Whirlwind Slice 89% Only after a successful Evasion
Swift Contract 89% +20% Combat Speed for 10 seconds
Illusive Clone 86% Your biggest damage window; saved for the moments that matter

j0ei’s notes say it three times: do not put Shadowstrike, Flash Slice, Infiltrate or Whirlwind Slice on the macro. You use them to get behind the boss, and Nellan97 aims for 85–90% of all damage to come from back attacks. schayan98 offers one exception for players who struggle with dodging: macro everything else, but never the skills that jump you, Shadowstrike, Infiltrate, Shadow Fall and Flash Slice. Shunkko’s buff-filled macro is meant for bosses only.

Do Assassins use a macro in PvP?

Many play PvP by hand. Only 35 of the 49 public Assassin builds named for PvP have a macro. j0ei’s PvP build has none; its notes give the engagement in order: Illusive Clone, Shadowstrike and Triniel’s Dagger, then Insignia Explosion and Quick Slice, then Heart Gore spam. Under pressure, j0ei uses Shadowstep and reopens with Spiral Slice, and keeps Flash Slice, Whirlwind Slice and Infiltrate for closing the gap.

All 35 PvP macros include Heart Gore, and 17 add Quick Slice. The most common, in 10 of them, is alan218’s “Assassin PvP” macro and its copies, with six steps: Illusive Clone → Defiance, Quick Slice, Ambush → Heart Gore → Savage Roar, Insignia Explosion, Smoke Bomb and Whirlwind Slice.

What delay should an Assassin macro use?

10 ms, and most Assassins never change it. Only 85 of the 536 Assassin builds with a macro set a delay (16%), the lowest share of any class. Of the 167 steps with one, 151 use 10 ms. delcatta plays at 80–100 ms ping with 10 ms and Skill Queue on, and suggests testing 20–40 ms on a training dummy if casts start to drop.
