FAQ

How do you get pets in AION 2?
At level 10 a story quest gives your first pet, a choice of Fossa, Armadon or Tog: “All Geared Up” in Verteron for Elyos, “Gathering Essentials” in Altgard for Asmodians. After that you unlock a pet by collecting 5 of its souls. Souls of 165 of the 209 pets drop from monsters; the rest come from pet chests, packs, events and shops.
How many souls does it take to max a pet?
105: 5 to unlock the pet at level 1, 25 more for level 2 and 75 more for level 3, which is the cap on the Global servers. Every pet uses the same numbers. MeinMMO reports that the Korean and Taiwanese servers already have level 5.
What is the best pet in AION 2?
Within a type there is none: in the client data, all pets of one type give the same stats, run and glide at the same speed and cost the same souls, so pick the one you like the look of. The types differ: Cogni adds HP, Critical Hit and Might; Fera mount speed, Accuracy and Dexterity; Natura Stamina, Critical Hit Resist and Precision; Varian cheaper mount sprints, Evasion and Constitution.
Where do you farm pet souls?
Mostly in Verteron (souls of 113 pets) and Altgard (108 pets); 69 pets drop in both. The Abyss zones Chaotic Lower and Middle Reshanta add 31 pets, 5 of them found nowhere else. Five pets drop only from dungeon bosses and three only from level 80 elites in Eltnen and Morheim.
How does pet transformation work?
Equip a level 3 pet and use an Empathy Candy (Bound): you turn into that pet for 300 seconds. Special pets can’t be used. The pet collection rewards give 10 candies at every 50 pets, and the Shugo Festival shop sells them for 20 Centuryroot Tokens each, according to Fextralife and games.gg.

How do pets work in AION 2?

You unlock a pet with 5 of its souls, then feed it 100 more to max it. Your first pet comes from a story quest at level 10: “All Geared Up” in Verteron for Elyos and “Gathering Essentials” in Altgard for Asmodians. Both quests offer Fossa, Armadon and Tog, and according to games.gg you choose one. After that, every pet works the same way:

Pet level Souls for this level Souls in total What it unlocks
1 5 5 The pet, ridden as a mount
2 25 30 Gliding
3 75 105 Transformation and the pet’s full bonus

Level 3 is the cap on the Global servers; MeinMMO reports that Korea and Taiwan already have level 5, so guides that mention level 5 are describing those servers. The soul counts come from questlog.gg’s client data and are the same for all 209 pets; riding and gliding come from Fextralife.

Your collection belongs to your account and is shared by your characters on the same server, according to MeinMMO.

Anders’ video guide covers pets and Genus Insight on the Global servers, including what changed from the Korean version:

Anders — AION 2 Global Pet & Genus Insight Guide

Which AION 2 pet is best?

No pet beats another of the same type. In questlog.gg’s client data, every pet of one type gives exactly the same bonus, has the same mount speed (900 running, 1,200 sprinting in the client data), glides the same way and needs the same 105 souls. A Krall Laborer and a Mumu Warrior are equal; only the look differs. What differs is the type:

Type Pets Level 1 Level 2 Level 3
Cogni 41 HP +10 HP +20, Critical Hit +1 HP +30, Critical Hit +2, Might +1
Fera 65 Mount Ground Move Speed +1 Mount Ground Move Speed +2, Accuracy +1 Mount Ground Move Speed +3, Accuracy +2, Dexterity +1
Natura 48 Stamina +3 Stamina +6, Critical Hit Resist +1 Stamina +9, Critical Hit Resist +2, Precision +1
Varian 46 Mount Sprint Stamina Cost −0.10% Mount Sprint Stamina Cost −0.20%, Evasion +1 Mount Sprint Stamina Cost −0.30%, Evasion +2, Constitution +1
Special 9 — — —

The values come from the client data and the stat names from Fextralife’s type pages. The 9 Special pets list no bonus of their own.

MeinMMO and games.gg describe these bonuses as owned effects that every pet in your collection gives, whether you ride it or not. So the useful question is not which pet to pick but how many you can raise: start with the pets whose souls drop near you, and ride whichever one you like.

Where do you farm pet souls?

In Verteron if you are Elyos, in Altgard if you are Asmodian. We matched every monster that drops a pet soul to the zones it spawns in, using questlog.gg’s client data read on 2026-10-16. Almost all of them live in those two zones:

  • Both Verteron and Altgard 69 pets
  • Verteron, not Altgard 44 pets
  • Altgard, not Verteron 39 pets
  • Only in the Abyss (Chaotic Lower or Middle Reshanta) 5 pets
  • Only from dungeon bosses 5 pets
  • Only from level 80 elites in Eltnen or Morheim 3 pets
Where the souls of the 165 farmable pets drop; questlog.gg client data, 2026-10-16

In total, 31 pets also drop in the two Abyss zones. Eltnen and Morheim have almost nothing: a single level 80 elite holds the souls of Pretor Veil Administrator in Eltnen, and two more hold Elite Karnif and Elite Dratona in Morheim.

For the pets on the other faction’s side, the Spacetime Rift sends Elyos to Altgard and Asmodians to Verteron for an hour. The rest of the 209 pets are covered below.

Which pets have the most spawn points?

Fera pets in Verteron; a mix in Altgard and the Abyss. These charts count the spawn points marked on questlog.gg’s map for all monsters that drop each pet’s souls; the more spawn points, the easier the souls are to find. The level is the level of those monsters in that zone.

What is Genus Insight?

A second upgrade track per pet type, paid with Soul Crystals. According to MeinMMO, each type has its own insight area, and each analysis rolls new random effects into its unlocked slots. You can lock an effect you like, but every lock makes the next analysis much more expensive. The client data on questlog.gg gives the numbers:

  • 9 effect slots per type, the first open at insight level 1 and one more at each level up to 9.
  • Each analysis costs 4 Soul Crystals of that type (or general Soul Crystals) and 1,000 Kinah.
  • Lock costs climb steeply, from 8 crystals and 2,000 Kinah to 396 crystals and 99,000 Kinah.

MeinMMO says crystals of a type drop from monsters whose pet you have already maxed, and that Special crystals only come from daily Duty Quests and Hidden Cubes. games.gg adds that insight progress is shared by your characters on the server, and Anders’ video says each type’s insight goes up to level 10, with better odds of rolling rarer effects at higher levels.

How does pet transformation work?

A level 3 pet plus an Empathy Candy turns you into that pet for 5 minutes. The candy’s description reads: “Use to transform into the currently equipped pet for 300s.” Fextralife adds that you keep your skills but can’t mount while transformed, and that you have to cancel the transformation before you switch pets. Special pets can’t be used, according to Fextralife and games.gg.

Empathy Candy (Bound) comes from the collection rewards below, 10 at every 50 pets, and from the Shugo Festival shop for 20 Centuryroot Tokens each, according to Fextralife and games.gg.

What are the pet collection rewards?

100 Soul Crystals at most milestones, and 10 Empathy Candies at every 50 pets. questlog.gg lists 51 reward tiers, counted in pets owned:

Pets owned Reward
5, then every 10 up to 490, skipping multiples of 50 100 Soul Crystal (Bound)
Every 50, from 50 to 500 10 Empathy Candy (Bound)

With all 209 pets on Global today, you reach 21 tiers: 1,700 Soul Crystals and 40 Empathy Candies. The tiers above 209 can’t be reached by pet count yet; questlog.gg doesn’t say whether anything else counts toward them.
