What is Hard mode in AION 2 expeditions?
A third difficulty for Krao Cave and Draupnir, added to Global on 21 October (20 October in PDT). Expeditions already had Exploration, the leveling mode, and Conquest, the level 45 gear mode (all six are compared in our AION 2 expeditions overview); Hard sits above Conquest in the same two dungeons. The patch notes set three rules, and questlog.gg’s game data adds the rest:
| Conquest | Hard | |
|---|---|---|
| Entry | Level 45, item level 700 | Item level 2,600 |
| Boss level | 45 | 68 |
| Boss Frenzy timer | — | 4 minutes |
| Revives | — | 3 per player |
| Odyle Energy per reward cube | 40 | 40 |
| Kina per clear | 65,000–70,000 | 160,000 |
| Guaranteed reward after | 14 cube claims | 28 cube claims |
| Ariel Fragments | None | 60–90 per clear |
The Conquest entry comes from expcarry’s Global dungeon guide. Both modes recommend 1 to 5 players in the game data. The bosses are the same three per dungeon, and the creators below say the first two fight as they do in Conquest, only harder and with more health.
What do Krao Cave and Draupnir Hard drop?
Kina, Ariel Fragments and the two crafting materials are guaranteed; the dungeon’s gear and the rare materials are chances. These are the rewards questlog.gg lists for a Hard reward cube, with its chances:
| Reward | Krao Cave Hard | Draupnir Hard |
|---|---|---|
| Kina | 160,000 | 160,000 |
| Ariel Fragment (Bound) | 60–90 (Ariel Fragment: Krao) | 60–90 (Ariel Fragment: Draupnir) |
| Silentium (Bound) | 7 | 7 |
| Soul Codex (Bound) | 1–2 | 1–2 |
| Amplify Stone Fragment (Unique) (Bound) | 1–5, 48.8% | 1–5, 48.8% |
| Dungeon gear | Berk Ring 3.4%, Earrings 2.6%, Necklace 2.1%; each Rupture weapon 0.9% | Bakarma Gloves and Cloak 2.5% each, Helm, Pauldrons and Boots 2.0%, Greaves 1.7%, Breastplate 1.3%, Guard 0.9% |
| Wrathful Mind | 4.0% | 4.0% |
| Wrathful Will, Wrathful Ego | 1.0% each | 1.0% each |
| Artisan’s Ultimate Refining Stone | 2.2% | 2.2% |
| Sealed wings | Black Fragment Wings, 1.1% | Blue Wave Wings, 1.1% |
| Artwork | Artwork: Krao 1.1%, Artwork: Wrathful Krao 0.3% | Artwork: Draupnir 1.1%, Artwork: Wrathful Draupnir 0.3% |
| Philosopher’s Stone: Revelation (Bound) | 1.0% | 1.0% |
On Hard, Krao Cave drops accessories and weapons and Draupnir drops armor. The patch notes add that all the Unique crafting materials, Wrathful Mind, Will and Ego, now drop in these two dungeons, and that new achievements for Hard unlock Unique skins.
How does the guaranteed reward work on Hard?
Every reward cube you claim counts towards a pick: on Hard you choose after 28 claims. Fextralife describes the system: each cube adds Condensed Cube Energy, and once you reach a dungeon’s claim count you choose one item from its list. Conquest needs 14 claims in both dungeons; Hard needs 28, and its list is longer:
- Krao Cave Hard: any Rupture weapon (Claymore, Sword, Knife, Longbow, Tome, Jewel, Warhammer or Rod), a Berk Necklace, Earrings or Ring, the Gear Change Voucher: Krao Cave, or Philosopher’s Stone: Revelation.
- Draupnir Hard: any piece of Bakarma armor or the Bakarma Guard, the Gear Change Voucher: Draupnir, or Philosopher’s Stone: Revelation.
Each cube costs 40 Odyle Energy, so 28 claims take 1,120. Fextralife adds that leaving a cleared dungeon without opening its cube still lowers your weekly cube count.
How do Ariel Fragments from Hard mode work?
Each clear gives 60–90 fragments of that dungeon’s kind, and 100 make one Ariel crystal. The two kinds do not combine, so plan on about two clears of the same dungeon per crystal. The patch notes cap the crystal at 30 per character and add a separate limit for each dungeon; spare fragments turn into Enhance Stones, 5 each. What the board gives, and the cheapest routes on it, are in our Ariel Daevanion board guide, and you can plan the board in the Daevanion calculator.
How do you beat Krao Cave Hard?
Dodge the first two bosses’ telegraphs, then learn Ultimate Berk’s jumps. NoBS Game Guides walks through every mechanic in a Krao Cave Hard guide (2026-10-21):
- Enhanced Harcon and the second boss throw mines, which you must not step on, and fire a beam that hurts a lot. The second boss pulls everyone towards it, so dodge right after, and drops fire puddles. A tank should hold the trash on the way, because it hits the rest of the group hard.
- At Ultimate Berk, bring running scrolls, food that adds stamina and healing potions for debuffs. Berk opens with heavy attacks that the tank side-steps, blocks or perfect-dodges, then dashes through the arena and back.
- The three-hit attack: everyone but the tank stands right behind Berk; the tank stays close and gets behind it as soon as the telegraph appears. All three hits dodge the same way.
- Right after that, Berk spins and follows the tank, every time. The tank runs away from the group, because the spin is extremely lethal.
- Every time Berk jumps, a mechanic follows. From the centre, it spawns four rocks and only the glowing one is safe to hide behind. Jumping onto a player, it can spin, hit in a cross pattern, or start the rock mechanic again. Spinning adds appear too; NoBS kills them to keep the arena clear.
- At about 50% health, Berk casts Extinction of Eternity while comets fall. Stagger it as fast as you can, using skills with extra stagger damage; if the stagger fails, the group wipes. After that the fight repeats, with mechanics overlapping.

How do you beat Draupnir Hard?
The first two bosses are Conquest with more damage; Transcendent Bakarma adds orbs and stagger checks. Sankura LP runs it with a group in a Draupnir Hard guide (2026-10-21), and JPVariety covers the same fight in a Draupnir Hard run (2026-10-21):
- The first two bosses: stay out of the poison pools, which hurt regardless of defense (JPVariety), and the area that turns you into a worm (Sankura). The boss with the mirror shield reflects about 500 damage per hit, which Sankura finds manageable; its AoE zones are the real danger, and JPVariety warns that two overlapping ones can one-shot you.
- Bakarma: let the tank go in first, because its spit can one-shot other players. Dodge the star-shaped AoE and jump the waves; JPVariety recommends a running scroll for the dodges.
- The stagger checks: when the whirlwinds come, everyone moves in and uses stagger skills. A failed stagger wipes the group. JPVariety saves his stagger skills for this phase and expects it again at about a third of Bakarma’s health; his group, with two Rangers, finished with 60 seconds of the 4 minutes left.
- New in Hard: Sankura points to a set of orbs during the waves, which come from different directions each time; the other bosses, he says, have no new abilities.

How strong do you need to be for Hard mode?
The game only checks item level 2,600; how much combat power you need is a matter of opinion. JPVariety would not attempt Draupnir Hard below about 160,000 combat power, since one mistake kills you within the time limit. Timesaver collected player reports of groups at 140,000 to 160,000 clearing comfortably and around 130,000 being slow. NoBS takes the opposite view: you can clear Krao Cave Hard at normal item level as long as you do not die too much.
What every creator agrees on is damage and stagger. Both final bosses wipe the group on a failed stagger, and the 4-minute Frenzy leaves little room for a slow group. Our AION 2 DPS tier list shows which classes deal the most boss damage in Global combat logs, and the weekly reset that refills your counters is on our reset time page.
