FAQ

What is the best Templar PvP build in AION 2?
It depends on the mode. For 1v1 and small fights, NoBS runs Shield of Protection, Nezekan’s Shield, Battlefield Banner and Doom Shield. For 5v5, Xia runs an area setup with Grapple, Empyrean Lord’s Punishment, Comrade in Arms and Doom Shield. Across 49 public PvP builds, Doom Shield and Grapple are the two most common stigmas.
Why do PvP Templars take Debilitating Smash’s anti-heal option?
Its level 8 option cuts the target’s Incoming Heal by 60% while Debilitate lasts, on top of Debilitate’s −25% Defense. riderastolfo calls it required for all PvP, and NoBS calls it the only tool against Clerics and Gladiators. 31 of 48 public PvP builds take it, against none of the non-PvP builds.
How does a Templar deal with Defiance in PvP?
Wait it out. Defiance breaks crowd control and grants immunity to it for 5 seconds, or 7 with its level 12 option. NoBS hooks the target with Poach, checks its buffs for Defiance, and if it was used, blocks and kites until it ends before using the stun combo.
Should a Templar use Taunt in PvP?
It is an option. In the client data, Taunt has a 50% chance to force a player to attack you for 3 seconds, and its Shrink debuff cuts the target’s Accuracy and Attack. Xia suggests it to pull an enemy off your healer or damage dealer, but only 9 of 49 public PvP builds slot it, against 42% of all Templar builds.
Which stats matter most for a PvP Templar?
Status Effect Chance and Resist. NoBS calls Impact Hit and Survival Willpower the most important passives, and trueeevil maxes Survival Willpower first. On Azphel they split: NoBS favors Status Effect Chance, because stunning the enemy is how you kill it, while trueeevil favors Status Effect Resist and PvP Damage Tolerance, because a crowd-controlled tank is out of the fight.

What is the best Templar PvP build right now?

A defensive bar for 1v1 and an area-control bar for 5v5. The Templar wins PvP fights by surviving the enemy’s burst and then locking them down. Two Templar creators with Global PvP guides set out the two versions: NoBS (Templar PvP Guide, 2026-10-15) and Xia (Templar PvP Guide, 2026-10-11, 5v5).

Part 1v1 and small fights (NoBS) 5v5 (Xia)
Stigmas Shield of Protection, Nezekan’s Shield, Battlefield Banner, Doom Shield Grapple, Empyrean Lord’s Punishment, Comrade in Arms, Doom Shield
Plan Bait the enemy’s burst into your shields, then burst back with Battlefield Banner Hook the healer or an exposed damage dealer, stun the group, protect your own focused player
Opener Battlefield Banner → Punishment for Executor → hold the macro Poach, then Grapple and an area stun, then Punishment or the macro
Key specialization Debilitating Smash’s −60% Incoming Heal The same; Executing Blade to 10 for Exposed
Passives Impact Hit and Survival Willpower first Fury and Impact Hit maxed, then defensive passives

For the PvE side of the class, see the Templar PvE build; every Templar guide is listed on the Templar builds hub.

Which stigmas should a Templar use in PvP?

Doom Shield on every bar, then shields for 1v1 or hooks for groups. The PvP builds keep Doom Shield and drop most of the PvE stigmas:

Stigma What it does (client data) 49 PvP builds All Templar builds
Doom Shield Rushes 20m, 75% chance to knock down for 3s, 5% Max HP shield; enables Judgment for 3s 40 80%
Grapple Pulls up to 4 enemies within 7m of the target in front of you and roots them for 3s 28 7%
Shield of Protection Guaranteed Block with 100% Block Damage Reduction; two uses from level 5, Mobile from 10 24 37%
Empyrean Lord’s Punishment Area hit with a 50% chance to stun up to 4 enemies for 3s 18 46%
Executing Blade Area hit; −30% Defense for 5s; +20% damage to targets under an Impact-type status 17 19%
Noble Armor +5.4% Max HP for 120s and an instant heal 14 72%
Comrade in Arms +10% PvP Damage Tolerance; for 6s you take half of the damage dealt to party members 12 4%
Battlefield Banner Attack increase based on your Defense for 10s 12 73%
Nezekan’s Shield Shield worth 41% of Max HP for 3s for you and your party 11 15%
Second Skin +15% PvP Damage Tolerance for 10s 11 5%
Taunt 50% chance to force a player to attack you for 3s; Shrink cuts Accuracy and Attack 9 42%

The “All Templar builds” column counts the 568 builds with stigmas on the bar among the first 900 public Templar skill builds we read on 2026-10-16. Grapple is the big PvP addition: about eight times as common as across all Templar builds. Battlefield Banner, Noble Armor and Taunt are the PvE stigmas PvP builds drop most.

NoBS’s 1v1 bar, piece by piece:

  • Shield of Protection blocks attacks for 3 seconds and, from level 10, can be used while moving, so you can walk into a ranged player and keep the pressure on. With two uses that is 6 seconds of blocking every 20 seconds. Bait the enemy’s burst into it.
  • Nezekan’s Shield lasts 5 seconds from level 10. NoBS reports a shield of about 50% of Max HP on a 1-minute cooldown (the base client text says 41% for 3 seconds). Use it when the enemy bursts, or when you are about to trade blows.
  • Doom Shield dashes in, can knock down, enables Judgment and resets Annihilate from level 5.
  • Battlefield Banner has a 1.5-minute cooldown, but it is the burst window: open it once the enemy has used their defensive cooldowns, or take them by surprise.

Xia’s 5v5 bar is built for area control. Grapple and Empyrean Lord’s Punishment hook and stun several enemies at once. Comrade in Arms protects a teammate who is being focused. Doom Shield lets you keep chasing priority targets. Xia also rates three alternatives:

  • Comrade in Arms at level 20: it restores 50% of your Max HP when it ends.
  • Nezekan’s Shield: for more party survival.
  • Taunt: to force an enemy off your healer or damage dealer.

Public build authors use the same split. .soulander runs Comrade in Arms, Nezekan’s Shield, Grapple and Doom Shield for groups, and Taunt, Grapple, Empyrean Lord’s Punishment and Executing Blade for solo arena. victorr5524 takes Executing Blade against melee classes and Grapple against ranged ones.

How does the Templar combo work in PvP?

Hook, stun, then burst, but never into Defiance. In the client data, the Templar’s control skills chain like this:

  1. Poach hits a target up to 20m away, pulls it in front of you and has a 75% chance to root it for 2 seconds.
  2. Shield Smite has a 60% chance to stun for 3 seconds; Doom Shield a 75% chance to knock down.
  3. Annihilate only hits a stunned or knocked-down target, and has a 30% chance to knock it down again (+20% with its level 8 option).
  4. Judgment is enabled by Doom Shield, Shield Smite, Warding Strike and Shield Rush.

Wait out Defiance. Defiance removes crowd control and grants immunity to it for 5 seconds, or 7 with its level 12 option. NoBS hooks with Poach, then checks the target’s buffs. If Defiance was used, NoBS blocks with Shield of Protection and backs off until it ends, then goes in. All-in at the start is a mistake, NoBS warns, because the enemy will obviously answer with Defiance.

The burst (NoBS): open Battlefield Banner, cast Punishment first for its Executor buff (+200 Accuracy and +10% PvP Damage Boost for 20 seconds), then hold the macro. When Judgment stops showing as ready, press Doom Shield or Shield Smite to enable it again.

The 5v5 opener (Xia): fish for the healer or a damage dealer with Poach. When they run, Grapple and stun the group, then use a full-charge Punishment or hold the macro. For a greedier setup, apply Executing Blade’s Exposed before the area stun. In the client data Exposed lasts 5 seconds; Xia says it lowers Evasion and Block by 500, so your crowd control lands more easily.

Against Gladiators and Clerics (NoBS), the fight becomes a battle of attrition. Keep Debilitating Smash on the target, poke with Poach on cooldown for its shield, and kite with your defensive cooldowns until Battlefield Banner is back.

Which specializations change for PvP?

Take the anti-heal, knockdown and Status Effect Resist options. These move most between the 49 PvP builds and the 393 non-PvP Templar builds we could read in full on 2026-10-16:

Skill PvP option PvP builds Other builds
Debilitating Smash −60% Incoming Heal during Debilitate (level 8) 31 of 48 0%
Annihilate +20% Knockdown chance (level 8) 25 of 47 0%
Poach −20% Status Effect Resist on the target for 5s (level 8) 21 of 48 2%
Shield Smite +1s Stun (level 8) 20 of 48 3%
Pummel Punishing Strike absorbs 3% HP (level 8) 19 of 47 5%
Warding Strike +100 Block during Warding (level 8) 19 of 48 6%
Poach 50% chance to stun for 3s (level 16) 12 of 48 0%

riderastolfo’s “PvP Templar Skills (Realistic)” (2 likes) puts it bluntly: Debilitating Smash is the most important skill, and its 60% healing cut plus the Defense reduction is required for all PvP. Cast it as much as possible. NoBS pairs the anti-heal with +3s Debilitate, which makes it last 8 seconds. Xia prioritizes Debilitating Smash to 20 in PvP. Xia picks between its Stun, anti-heal and duration options based on how much anti-heal the rest of the team brings.

Poach is the debated one. NoBS weighs −20% Status Effect Resist, which makes your next stun more likely, against the level 12 option, a shield worth 10% of Max HP every 15 seconds. NoBS currently runs the shield. Other picks from NoBS and Xia:

  • Judgment: the PvE options (no cooldown at 16, Critical Hit). Xia also likes the option that deals extra damage to targets under an Impact-type status; Xia defines those as stun, knockdown, airborne and grab, and notes the Templar has all but airborne.
  • Shield Smite: +1s Stun or the 50% chance to trigger Debilitating Smash.
  • Shield Rush: −10s cooldown (NoBS) or Stamina on hit (Xia), and +25% Stun at 16.
  • Annihilate: +20% Knockdown and −10s cooldown.
  • Punishment: Mobile matters more than damage, says Xia. NoBS takes +30% Skill Speed and, at 16, Block-ignoring crits.

riderastolfo adds that charging skills feels bad in PvP: tap Punishment for its Executor buff and go back to the rotation.

Which passives matter in PvP?

Impact Hit and Survival Willpower first. NoBS calls them the two most important PvP passives: Impact Hit raises your chance to inflict Impact-type crowd control, and Survival Willpower adds Status Effect Resist, so you are stunned less. riderastolfo calls Survival Willpower the hidden best passive, better the more players try to crowd-control you at once, and trueeevil, in a Templar PvP build guide (2026-10-03), says to max it: what takes a frontline tank out of a big fight is being crowd-controlled without end. trueeevil pairs it with Defiance’s +2s Tenacity and HP restore. Xia maxes Fury and Impact Hit, then puts everything into defensive passives.

NoBS highlights two defensive passives:

  • Block Pain raises your PvP Damage Tolerance for 10 seconds when an enemy hits you (+5.5% at level 1 in the client data, 20-second cooldown). NoBS lets enemies hit first to trigger it.
  • Guarding Seal gives you a shield for 30 seconds when you drop to 50% HP, on a 1-minute cooldown. It is worth 21% of Max HP at level 1 in the client data; NoBS’s is at 34%.

Together with Nezekan’s Shield and Shield of Protection, NoBS calls the Templar’s defenses massive.

Which settings help a Templar in PvP?

Both creators lean on targeting:

  • Target hostile players (key settings → General → Target) always targets a player, even a Spiritmaster between their spirits. NoBS uses it to cycle through enemy players.
  • Markers: NoBS binds a skull marker to the middle mouse button and marks the enemy healer, so the whole team knows whom to focus.
  • Target the party leader’s target: Xia binds it so everyone presses one key and attacks the same target. Xia says proper targeting is how the team beat players with much higher gear.
  • HP bars: NoBS shows the gauge bar instead of names over characters (settings → Info Display → Common). Only your current enemy target shows an HP bar, so any other HP bar you see belongs to a friendly player.
  • Large Abyss fights: trueeevil sets player particle effects to self only and turns identical player appearance on, so the game stays responsive with hundreds of players on screen.

How should a Templar spend Azphel points?

Head for the PvP corners; the creators split on what to take on the way. NoBS aims for the PvP Damage Boost and Damage Tolerance corners and takes as many Status Effect Chance nodes as possible, because stunning the enemy is how you kill it. trueeevil does the opposite: PvP Damage Tolerance before Damage Boost on the 4-point corners, and Status Effect Resist before Chance on the 3-point nodes, because a tank that is crowd-controlled in a big Abyss fight is out of it. trueeevil adds that the 2-point nodes each mix an offensive and a defensive stat, so any of them is fine. In the client data, Azphel uses its own point type, unlocks at level 45 and holds 153 nodes for 232 points, all PvP stats, Status Effect Chance and Resist, and a few Max HP and MP nodes. The public boards differ:

Board Azphel points What it takes
kiliox94, “Global (Updated and improved DPS)” 122 All eight corners, 4 Status Effect Chance
riderastolfo, “Templar Around 2100” 82 3 PvP Damage Tolerance, no Damage Boost, Critical Hit Resist and PvP Defense
Xia, “max for testing” 232 The full board

The PvE boards are covered in the Templar Daevanion guide.

Gear (NoBS): Abyss shop skins add PvP Damage Tolerance and its earrings PvP Damage Boost. The first battle amulet gives 10% PvP Damage Boost and is upgraded with materials from the Abyss shop. For the PvE gear path, see the Templar gear guide.

Where does this build come from?

We have not tested this build in-game ourselves. It is compiled from these sources and checked against the skill data:

  • Skill, specialization and Daevanion data: the Global game client data behind questlog.gg’s planners (checked 2026-10-18).
  • NoBS Game Guides: Templar PvP Guide Aion 2 | Tips & Tricks To Dominate Arena / Abyss! (2026-10-15).
  • Xia: AION 2 Templar PvP Guide | Build, Combos & Targeting (2026-10-11), and the public “5v5” skill build and “max for testing” Daevanion board on questlog.gg.
  • trueeevil: Ultimate Aion 2 Templar PvP Build Guide (2026-10-03).
  • Public build authors: riderastolfo, .soulander, victorr5524 and kiliox94’s public PvP builds, notes and Daevanion boards on questlog.gg.
  • Public PvP builds: the 63 public Global Templar skill builds on questlog.gg named or tagged for PvP, searched on 2026-10-18. Shares count the 49 that slot stigmas and are not the Portuguese template.
  • Comparison builds: stigma shares from the 568 builds with stigmas on the bar among the first 900 public Templar skill builds (2026-10-16), and specialization shares from the 393 non-PvP Templar builds we could read in full on the same day.

The 500-point Exposed penalty, the size of Nezekan’s Shield at level 10 and the Abyss shop gear come from the creators, not from the client data.
